Vulnerability Assessment of Madhya Pradesh towards Climate Change
This publication represents the pioneering effort to further the methodology of Vulnerability Assessment which constitutes the scientific groundwork for informed policy decisions in the State of Madhya Pradesh. It can serve as an example for other Union States to adapt the methodology to their respective needs and requirements.
Realizing that Vulnerability Assessment would support formulation of robust adaptation strategies and also in integrating climate change concerns in the development planning processes, this study assesses the climate change risks and vulnerabilities of Madhya Pradesh.
It illustrates how the investigators met the key challenges to such a comprehensive study – evolving an appropriate methodology to conduct such a State-level assessment ensuring participation from stakeholders; and, data gathering from different sectors for different timelines.
The study is the result of a collaborative project of Ministry of Environment & Forests and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) on Climate Change Adaptation in Rural Areas of India.
